Chapter 7

Chapter 7
When the Lord your God shall have brought you into the land, which you are going in to possess, and shall have destroyed many nations before you, the Hethite, and the Gergezite, and the Amorrhite, and the Chanaanite, and the Pherezite, and the Hevite, and the Jebusite, seven nations much more numerous than you art, and stronger than you:
And the Lord your God shall have delivered them to you, you shall utterly destroy them. you shall make no league with them, nor shew mercy to them:
Neither shall you make marriages with them. you shall not give your daughter to his son, nor take his daughter for your son:
For she will turn away your son from following me, that he may rather serve strange gods, and the wrath of the Lord will be kindled, and will quickly destroy you.
But thus rather shall you deal with them: Destroy their altars, and break their statues, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven things.
Because you are a holy people to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you, to be his peculiar people of all peoples that are upon the earth.
Not because you surpass all nations in number, is the Lord joined unto you, and has chosen you, for you are the fewest of any people:
But because the Lord has loved you, and has kept his oath, which he swore to your fathers: and has brought you out with a strong hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, out of the hand of Pharao the king of Egypt.
And you shall know that the Lord your God, he is a strong and faithful God, keeping his covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments, unto a thousand generations:
And repaying forthwith them that hate him, so as to destroy them, without further delay immediately rendering to them what they deserve.
Keep therefore the precepts and ceremonies and judgments, which I command you this day to do.
If after you have heard these judgments, you keep and do them, the Lord your God will also keep his covenant to you, and the mercy which he swore to your fathers:
And he will love you and multiply you, and will bless the fruit of your womb, and the fruit of your land, your corn, and your vintage, your oil, and your herds, and the flocks of your sheep upon the land, for which he swore to your fathers that he would give it you.
Blessed shall you be among all people. No one shall be barren among you of either sex, neither of men nor cattle.
The Lord will take away from you all sickness: and the grievous infirmities of Egypt, which you know, he will not bring upon you, but upon your enemies.
You shall consume all the people, which the Lord your God will deliver to you. your eye shall not spare them, neither shall you serve their gods, lest they be your ruin.
If you say in your heart: These nations are more than I, how shall I be able to destroy them?
Fear not, but remember what the Lord your God did to Pharao and to all the Egyptians,
The exceeding great plagues, which your eyes saw, and the signs and wonders, and the strong hand, and the stretched out arm, with which the Lord your God brought you out: so will he do to all the people, whom you fear.
Moreover the Lord your God will send also hornets among them, until he destroy and consume all that have escaped you, and could hide themselves.
You shall not fear them, because the Lord your God is in the midst of you, a God mighty and terrible:
He will consume these nations in your sight by little and little and by degrees. you will not be able to destroy them altogether: lest perhaps the beasts of the earth should increase upon you.
But the Lord your God shall deliver them in your sight: and shall slay them until they be utterly destroyed.
And he shall deliver their kings into your hands, and you shall destroy their names from under Heaven: no man shall be able to resist you, until you destroy them.
Their graven things you shall burn with fire: you shall not covet the silver and gold of which they are made, neither shall you take to you any thing thereof, lest you offend, because it is an abomination to the Lord your God.
Neither shall you bring any thing of the idol into your house, lest you become an anathema, like it. you shall detest it as dung, and shall utterly abhor it as uncleanness and filth, because it is an anathema.
